New Photography Blog

I recently started a photography blog on Tumblr. I have always loved photography and am especially interested in unusual cameras and techniques, so this blog focuses on that idea.

I called it LoFi Photography and have been adding one photograph a day. The majority of these photographs have been taken with toy cameras such as my Mini Diana, Pinhole camera, Fisheye camera as well as techniques such as cross processing and reticulation.

I find this kind of photography so fun, so pay this new blog a visit!

Here are some examples of my work that can be found there...

Summer T-Shirts!

Here are a selection of t-shirts I screen printed for myself to use over Summer! Any excuse to do some more screen printing!

We have Peppermint Patty, Blooper and Vincent Gallo to keep me happy.

Finished!

I have finished my Graphic Design Degree! Hurrah! Onto bigger and brighter things (hopefully...)

I will of course keep putting new bits of Graphic Design and Photography on here.

:)

Emotional Reactions Video Clips

I completely forgot to include any of the Emotional Reaction videos I put together! So here are two of my favourites.

End Results

So I finished off all the projects I was working on. To go with the Emotional Reaction posters I produced a set of six booklets, one for each video clip. The booklet contains all the best reaction images as well as a slot to hold the CD with the actual video on. Each cover contains my favourite image out of all the reactions.

I also produced a set of three pamphlets to go with the An Emotional Time posters. These posters were quite abstract so I wanted to include a bit more information to add more context to the project. I included bits and pieces of information about the emotions I was feeling throughout the period of time.

Emotional T Shirts Photo Shoot

I have recently been playing around with doing photo shoots for each of my emotional t-shirts and designing posters to represent them. Some emotions have been harder than others to photograph, why is it so hard to get someone to look Frisky!?

Here are a few posters, more to come later.

Emotional T Shirts

I decided to screen print a selection of T Shirts linked to my earlier 'emotions as colours' project.

The idea with these shirts are that you can wear them depending on how you are feeling on that particular day. You would have your emotion stamped across your chest!

Next step is to do some photo-shoots!

Emotional Reactions - Early Poster Ideas

These are some early poster designs for my emotional reactions project that I mentioned earlier in the blog. I wanted them to be very clean and minimal so the emphasis would be on the faces in the photographs. All I included were a collection of reactions and a very brief sentence outlining the video they have just seen.

I do like these posters, however they are lacking a certain something and I have since moved on to try a new idea that will hopefully work a lot better. Will keep you posted!

Included below are two of the posters out of the set of six.

Peskimo exhibition

I recently went to an exhibition organised by the design group Peskimo, called Teasmade.

It was a definite inspiration as I love this particular design style, cute and slightly surreal. I will be pursuing this genre very soon, and am so looking forward to it!

The exhibition was amazing and I could have easily bought everything there, but chose to just buy these two prints to adorn the walls of my flat!

An emotional month

The final part of my time based emotion posters. I had previously created posters showing a days emotions and a weeks emotions, this is the final part depicting the whole of March, a months emotions.

I am pleased with how it came out, it fits in with the whole minimal and colourful aesthetic I was aiming for with this project. These posters have been very enjoyable to plan and make!

Emotional Reactions - Screen Prints

I took some of my favourite reactions and just experimented with layering them on top of each other using the screen printing process. This was just an experiment, not the final posters but I really like how they came out.

Like my emotion posters earlier I tried to match the emotional reaction with the colour that best represents it.

Emotional Reactions - Screen Grabs

For this section of the project I wanted to capture the emotions of lots of different people, so I decided to film their reactions to a selection of videos.

I chose six different videos that were intended to cause a variety of reactions,
1- A pet lizard eating baby rabbits.
2- A cute cat walking down a corridor.
3- A phonecall from someone in the World Trade Centre on 9/11.
4- A video for the new Jedward single 'Under Pressure'.
5- A clip of a woman who had her face ripped off by a drug addicted chimp.
6- A joke advert intended to make you jump.

Luckily all the reactions were very different and very interesting, I have included a selection below! The next step is to work these into some kind of poster design.

Emotional Reactions - Teaser Poster

This is a poster I screen-printed for my emotional reactions project.

A teaser poster for the rest of the project, which I will be showing some more of over the next few days.

A Whole Range Of Emotions

I am currently working on a project focusing on the very vague subject of emotions.

My first idea was to try and record every emotion I have been feeling over a set amount of time, so far I have produced one poster documenting one day and another documenting one week. Every colour represents a different emotion and if you are unable to work out which colour means what I have even designed a handy table!

A poster for a months worth of emotions is currently being worked on.
